Iconic (& Affordable) Independence Day Plans

Looking for a game plan for the long weekend? Here are some family-friendly Independence Day itineraries that won’t break the bank. This year, we’re planning to stay in the neighborhood, save money, but mix things up a bit.

First on the agenda: patriotic pancakes

Blueberries. Strawberries. Whipped cream. Nothing fancy. Just everyone in their July 4th pjs and a crowd favorite. Set it out an let the kids add their own toppings and make their own American flag designs. For the best white in your red, white & blue menu, whip up some homemade whipped cream with this easy, 3-ingredient recipe:

SUPER SIMPLE WHIPPED CREAM
Before you start, pop your mixing bowl into the freezer for the yummiest, chilled result (and a quick ice cream alternative for little ones later in the day.)

YOU’LL NEED:

1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold

1/2 cup powdered sugar

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

The kids love to watch this… Add your 3 ingredients to your chilled bowl and turn the mixer on low. Gradually increase speed up to high and mix until stiff peaks form like magic. Grab a spoon (or shh… a finger) for a quick upside down test and enjoy!

Next: a morning bike parade

This can be as low key or planned out as your crew wants. Grab the neighbors, throw some streamers, mini flags and balloons on the tricycles and let the kids ride while the parents supervise, mix and mingle. If you can block off the cul-de-sac, they’ll get a real feeling of independence. Take it up a notch with a patriotic playlist on portable speakers and you have yourself a free July 4th activity you can all look forward to each year.

We’ve picked our comfiest, parade-ready, bicycle-friendly looks to make this even iconic from OshKosh, starting with denim. Denim shorts and overalls are an all-American must-have this holiday. We’re partial to this eyelet hem pair for her with a pretty, striped top and these epic overalls for toddler boy. What parade would be complete without flair? We’re star eyes for red, white and blue sunglasses, hair accessories and more.

To the neighborhood pool, but pack a picnic

Skip the crowded beach resort this July 4th and just give your family the liberty chill at the neighborhood pool. If you’re lucky enough to have a grill at the pool, go for it. If not, a southern summer fave is cold fried chicken, potato salad and fresh watermelon.

You can catch us poolside this summer in these red, white and UPF 50+ swimsuits.

Nap time (aka. baseball game time)

Take a midday break from the heat, put the little ones down for a nap while you kick back and catch America’s favorite pastime. While cheering for the home team, we’re soaking in the most stylish baby snuggles. Just take a peek at these pieces from Baby B’gosh, including the comfiest crochet sun suit.

Fireworks with littles

When it’s time to load up the truck, golf cart or wagon and make your way to the neighborhood fireworks show, don’t forget a few key things to keep the littlest ones happy.

  • A stroller fan: This bladeless stroller fan from Skip Hop is truly a game changer for not only keeping little ones cool, but for keeping mosquitos at bay.

  • Even if the fireworks are quick, there’s always a little traffic getting home. Be totally prepared with a change of pjs. Our newest organic cotton pjs from Little Planet have a quintessential New England coastal print, perfect for the fourth. Sibling (and cousin) matching is a must with baby, toddler and kid sizes.

Whether you stay in the neighborhood, head to the beach or catch a ball game, your kids need some festive ‘fits, yes? Everything from iconic denim, to breezy dresses, American flag tank tops for kids and more, this way. Stay safe & God bless!
